Leona Mackler, Ph.D., Founder and CEO

A lifetime resident of St. Louis, Leona Mackler has devoted her life to educating thousands of young minds in our community.Proud of being "kicked up" several grades in elementary school, Dr. Mackler knew in those formative years her career path would be education when she served as a teacher’s aide or assistant coaching multiple sports programs. After graduating high school at age fifteen, Dr. Mackler attended Washington University, earning a B.A./M.Ed. in Elementary and Secondary Administration. She obtained her certification and began her career in the St. Louis Public School District, serving as a teacher before entering administration as a director of school, director of district reading, and ultimately assistant deputy superintendent of the district. Dr. Mackler received her Ph.D. in Organizational Analysis/Corporate Culture from Stanford University. She co-authored Reading Diagnosis, a text widely used in schools across the country to help teachers become better instructors in reading. She has spoken nationally on the subject of education, and she has consulted with numerous corporations to help improve their corporate culture. In recognition of her efforts in the field of reading education, Dr. Mackler received the first National Honorary Sigma Tau Delta English Key. In 1982, Dr. Mackler founded Mackler & Associates, returning to her first great love, working directly with students with a wide array of educational goals and learning challenges.

Jason S. Marks, J.D., Director of Operations

A native of St. Louis, Jason Marks always exhibited a passion for knowledge and a gift to impart that knowledge to others. Having been "kicked up" several grades in math early in elementary school, he tutored junior high school students in algebra using an instructional book he wrote as a project in sixth grade. The recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, Mr. Marks attended the Honors College at the University of Missouri, graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology and minors in economics and religious studies. An inductee of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, Mr. Marks worked as an undergraduate on econometric forecasting models for the state General Assembly. Mr. Marks attended Washington University School of Law as a Scholar of Law Award recipient. After graduation, Mr. Marks became a member of the Missouri Bar and practiced in the fields of criminal defense, civil liberties, appellate and family law. He has authored numerous law review articles, including oft-cited pieces on the First Amendment religion clauses, Fourth Amendment search and seizure, and the Ninth Amendment. A more recent article found its way into the briefs of parties before the United States Supreme Court in its most recent decision on affirmative action in higher education, Grutter v. Bollinger. Mr. Marks joined Mackler & Associates as its Director of Operations, principal tutor and instructor in 2000, where he has worked successfully with hundreds of students, from elementary school children to young men and women in graduate school.
