Leona Mackler, Ph.D., Founder and CEO (1982-2017)
A lifetime resident of St. Louis, Leona Mackler has devoted her life to educating thousands of young minds in our community. Proud of being “kicked up” several grades in elementary school, Dr. Mackler knew in those formative years her career path would be education. She attended Washington University, earning a B.A./M.Ed. in Elementary and Secondary Administration. She obtained her certification and began her career in the St. Louis Public School District, serving as a teacher before entering administration as a director of a school, director of district reading, and ultimately assistant deputy superintendent of the district. Dr. Mackler received her Ph.D. in Organizational Analysis/Corporate Culture from Stanford University. She co-authored Reading Diagnosis, a text widely used in schools across the country to help teachers become better instructors in reading. She has spoken nationally on the subject of education, and she has consulted with numerous corporations to help improve their corporate culture. In recognition of her efforts in the field of reading education, Dr. Mackler received the first National Honorary Sigma Tau Delta English Key. In 1982, Dr. Mackler founded Mackler & Associates, returning to her first great love, working directly with students with a wide array of educational goals and learning challenges.
She passed away in 2017, but her vision continues to be realized with President Jason Marks.
